Keynote Speakers
Lou Yongqi
Professor, Vice President of Tongji University, China
Yongqi Lou (娄永琪), PhD, is a vice president of Tongji University (Shanghai) and the Chair of the China National Graduate Education Steering Committee for Design. Lou has been at the forefront of design-driven innovation that connects design, business, and technology. He has played a crucial role in the success of the Tongji University College of Design and Innovation (D&I) since its inception in 2009 and through his deanship till 2022. Lou has served on various boards, including CUMLUS, ICSID/WDO, DESIS, and Angewandte. He is the founding executive editor of She Ji: The Journal of Design, Innovation, and Economics (hosted online by Elsevier) and serves as an editorial board member of Design Issues (MIT Press). He was the co-chair of IASDR 2021 and was invited as a keynote speaker at prestigious events such as WDC 2024, BODW 2018, IFI 2017, IDSA 2016, and ACM SIGCHI 2015. His works have been exhibited in the Design Museum of Helsinki, the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, and other renowned institutions. Lou was elected as a fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) in 2019, and in 2023, he received an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art.
Juyoung Chang
Professor, Dean of Design School, Dongseo University, Korea
Prof. Juyoung Chang is the Dean of the College of Design at Dongseo University and the Director of the Asia Design Center for the Future (ADCF). Her work focuses on exploring the intersection of design and cultural identity, particularly within Korean and Asian contexts, to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity in design.
As the principal investigator of ADCF’s research project, funded by a national grant from the Korean National Research Foundation (2019–2025), she leads the development of innovative design curricula that integrate local Korean culture and gamification approaches. This project reflects her dedication to advancing sustainable development in local communities through design education. Through her work, she seeks to inspire meaningful contributions to both the local and global design landscapes.
Jarmo Suominen
Professor, College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University, China
Jarmo Suominen is a recognized academic and expert in service-oriented architecture, urban ecosystems, and environmental design, with a career spanning academia, innovation, and industry. In his architectural practice, Jarmo has earned over 20 prizes in international architectural and urban planning competitions, highlighting his expertise in creative and sustainable design.
His recent work explores the potential of AI-human-robot collaboration in creative fields. By combining human artistic intuition with the precision and scalability of AI and robotics, Jarmo has led initiatives like community art murals, where robots execute AI-generated designs under human creative guidance. These projects demonstrate his commitment to integrating cutting-edge technologies with cultural and community-oriented design practices.
Jarmo’s academic career includes over decades of leadership and innovation. He has worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) since 2000 and currently serves as the Vice Director of the MIT-Tongji City Science Lab in Shanghai. He has been a professor at Aalto University’s Department of Architecture since 2002 to 2022 and has held positions at Tongji University since 2012, where he is Vice Dean at the International Institute of Design and Innovation.

Cees de Bont
Professor, Head of Industrial Design Division, National University of Singapore, Singapore
Cees de Bont was trained in psychology, and specialized in economic psychology, at Tilburg University and conducted PhD research in Delft. He worked for Philips Design and for Philips Domestic Appliances and Personal Care between 1995 and 2005.Between 2005 and 2024, Cees was the dean in Delft, Hong Kong and Loughborough. Among other things, Cees strengthened research, developed curricula, worked on product-service systems and social design and merged design and creative arts.
Since August 2024, Cees is heading the Division of Industrial Design at the National University of Singapore. Cees has a special interest in inclusive design with a focus on the aging population as well as in the psychological underpinnings of design for healthy living. Cees has co-authored publications in a wide variety of design journals, such as: Design Studies, Design Issues, International Journal of Design, the Design Journal, Sheji: The Journal of Design, Economics, and Innovation.
Jianxi Luo
Professor, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China
Jianxi Luo is a Professor of Systems Engineering at City University of Hong Kong. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Systems and an M.S. in Technology and Policy from MIT, as well as an M.S. and B.E. from Tsinghua University. Luo is ranked No.1 in Hong Kong and 22nd globally in the field of Design Practice and Management according to Stanford world’s top 2% scientists list. His research focuses on design theory and methodology, with a recent emphasis on generative AI for design and data-driven innovation. His contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including two Best Paper Awards in Design Theory and Methodology from ASME and three Reviewer’s Favorite Paper Awards from the Design Society. His broader interests span entrepreneurship, leadership, and public policy through a design science lens. Luo has served on the editorial boards of many design-related journals, including She Ji and Design Science, and chaired the INFORMS Technology Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship Section. Previously, Luo held faculty appointments at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University, the Singapore University of Technology and Design, and New York University.
Tobias Larsson
Professor, Director of Product Development Research, Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden
Professor (Chair in Mechanical Engineering) with extensive experience from applied research and projects in the intersection between academia and industry. Primarily researching digitalized product development, and innovation engineering, within the aerospace, automotive, industrial and healthcare sector, both civil and defence. With a high focus on the digitalisation and constant transformation going on in industry with start in computer aided engineering processes (1996-) and recently on a model based digitalisation work where digital twin and IoT comes together for delivering customer value through product-service systems in a circular economy Professor Larsson support any organisation with a desire for a future sustainable industry and society.
Professor Larsson is Director of Product Development Research Lab: https://www.productdevelopment.se/ and has been supervisor to several PhD (31) and Lic degrees (33) and currently supervisor for 12 PhD candidates. Contributed to 150+ publications within the research area. Professor at age of 34, previously held professors chair at Luleå University of Technology (2007-2011), and guest professor at Lund University (2011) before joining BTH in 2011.
